Gaining knowledge: My class writing for engineering

              I think my writing has improved so much throughout the whole semester. I have learned and grown so much over the course. Writing for engineering, ENGL 21007 was my second semester class in college. I did writing class before, but in this writing class I have done different types of writing which I never done before and that’s why I got the chance to do something new and to learn something new. The whole course was consisted of five major assignment. Resume and cover letter, interview report, lab report, group proposal project, and technical description. The genre of each assignment is totally different from the another. By writing these different types of assignment, I learned so much and I think which will help me later on in my other class or in my future job as an engineer. Besides these five major assignment we also did many other thing in class such as: grammar practice, proper ways to citation, wrote mini paragraph, and presentation. All these variety of writing helped me to learn different types of course learning outcomes and helped to become a better writer.

            Resume and cover letter was the first major assignment. This assignment was to create resume and cover letter and the process individual need to go through in order to get a job. For this assignment we had to go online and find internship job based on our own interest. And then we wrote the resume and cover letter based on job application requirement. To write the resume and cover letter I followed the professor’s lecture and textbook. By doing this assignment I have learned how create resume and cover letter for different job. I also learned that while you writing resume or cover letter it is very important to focus on the job requirement and description, so that I can write based on want they wants. By doing this particular assignment I also learned the concept A&P which stands for audience and purpose. It is very keep the audience in mind while writing. While I wrote the resume and cover letter, the job description was my audience and I wrote my resume and cover letter what the job wants from me. I also learned how to follow different format for different writing.

           The second major assignment was interview report. This assignment was totally new for me. I never did an interview with someone in a very professional way. So it was a different experience for me and very helpful. Since, I am leaning towards to study computer science, so for this assignment I had to interview a person who is currently working in computer science field. This interview was really helpful for me to know more about computer science. The purpose of this assignment was that every student can know more about their future career so that they can take the right decision right now and not regret later on. By doing this assignment, I have now more clear idea about computer science and its job opportunities. I also learned how to interview someone in professional way and write an interview report based on that. By doing this assignment I have learned course learning outcomes about drafting, because for this assignment I revised my own interview to make sure that I put all the information correct way before submitting it to my professor. I also learned how to synthesize information, because I had to interview a person then I had to organize all the information and ideas to write the interview report. This assignment also help me to build networking in the computer science field and I think which is very beneficial me and my future career.

            The next important assignment was lab report. For this particular I wrote lab report on dice probability. I had do lot of research to write the lab report which helped me to learn course learning outcome  information literacy. I used cunys online library to research about my assignment and this way I also learned how to use cunys online library and find credible source. After done my research  wrote my lab report on dice probability. I used other sources for my lab report so I had to do citation to avoid plagiarism. I used APA style to do my citation correctly. By doing I also learned how combine information from various source which is another course learning outcomes is call synthesis. this assignment helped me a lot to learn so many thing at the same time.

             Another most important assignment was group proposal. In this assessment I worked with three other people as a group. For this assignment we all worked equally and together. By doing this assignment I learned how to write an actual proposal. For these we also did lot of research about our proposal. For this assignment, working as a group I learned how to collaboration with group and worked together. When we were doing this group project, I felt like we were doing reaal proposal in our workplace. I think this proposal was really beneficial for me coz I think it will help me in my future job as computer scientists.

Last major assignment was technical description. This assignment was focused on individual interest. I choose my own topic for technical description and I choose to write about touch screen. I had to write a verbal and visual representation about touchscreen. The use of technology for this assignment was blackboard, scholarly article research, and microsoft word. I had to keep the technical description short and simple but which covers all the information at the same time. So this help me to synthesis means combine various types of information and sources. I also revised my draft and fixed grammatical mistake.

              Besides all these major assignment, I also did many other thing in class which was really helpful. Before each assignment professor talk about it and used textbook which helped me a lot while I did my assignment. There were also many class where we practice use of grammar. My grammar is not that good , so practicing grammar in class helped me a lot. After doing each assignment we all had do presentation in class which helped to become more good public speak.

           At the end, I can just say that throughout the whole semester in every class (writing for engineering) I learned something new and I think there nothing less important that I learned. I have done lot assignment and learned different thing from different assignment. Throughout the whole semester my writing has improved so much.
